"Catskill Animal Sanctuary is such a magical place, and I knew many of our volunteers would love to help out there. I thought a 'volunteer exchange' would be the perfect opportunity for our enthusiastic, hardworking and animal-loving volunteers to spread the rescue love and contribute to an amazing cause,” said Jillian Haynes, Mighty Mutts’ volunteer coordinator who organized the outing. 20 Mighty Mutts volunteers, who generously spend their Saturdays at adoption events in the heart of the city headed upstate for a day of spring cleaning on the farm.
With sprawling grounds and over 300 rescued animals to visit it’s easy to spend a relaxed, leisurely day at the Sanctuary. But our volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got to work! Volunteers broke into groups and spent the first half of the day raking out enclosures and clearing pastures of winter debris. The resident animals seemed to enjoy their visitors, and joined the volunteers for some of their activities. After a lunch break, Michelle Alvarez, the Outreach Manager at CAS, took the Mighty Mutts group on a tour to meet some of the sanctuary's many resident animals.
