Dallas was an owner surrendered and it's understood that in his previous home he was "roughly treated." He came in a bit sensitive around his face and collar area (it's believed he was yanked around by his collar) but he has become much more trusting since being under the loving care of Mighty Mutts rescue. We haven't witnessed any flinching during our visit with him and his volunteers say he has made great improvements in this area!
We strolled around with Dallas in the crowded NY Farmers Market, passing through waves of all age and size humans, and passing by numerous dogs. Dallas has a slow and steady walk. He glances over at dogs passing by him, but leaving them alone if they leave him alone. (A smaller dog did start charging towards him at one point, which seemed to frighten Dallas a bit, but easily managed.)
Dallas is a big treat lover and we were told he loves to learn new tricks! He's a smart dog who catches on quickly, so if you're into teaching an old dog new tricks Dallas would be up for the challenge. :)
Mighty Mutts wrote, 'Handsome Dallas is a 6 year old boxer who hasn’t always been treated well. He was rescued from a very abusive situation. When Dallas first came to us, he was very hand-shy of strangers. Over time, he has learned to trust and bonds deeply with our volunteers. He is truly ready for a forever home.
He is housebroken and really smart--he knows sit, paw and lay down. He gets along with some dogs, and really deserves a loving home that will show him that people can be kind.'
We asked what type of exercise and how much outdoor time Dallas would ideally need. The volunteers stated he could use several walks a day, but he does tire out and would totally love being a "couch and movies" dog. When we got back to the adoption site after our short stroll around the Union Square area, Dallas took several laps of water and quickly settled on his blanket.
Dallas would do best in a home with family members who can respect his face and neck area and treat him with gentle, kind and soft touch. Dallas can be adopted anywhere within reasonable driving distance to NYC and the tri-state area.
