Denny, adopted in 2010 and Eugene, adopted in 2011Bradley writes, "I wanted to give an update on Denny and Eugene. Both were adopted from Ollie's. They were adopted about a year apart, but instantly bonded when they met each other. They are pretty much inseparable. We now live in a house in Seattle and they love having more space to run around. Almost every day you can find them sitting in our front window together watching birds, people and the occasional dog walking by. They have been wonderful additions to our family." |
Bunnie, adopted in 2011Jen writes, "Bunnie came to Mighty Mutts from Harlem. She was an owner surrender that by an accidental twist of fate, was rescued by Michelle. As the story goes - Michelle was there to pick up "Honey", another Mighty Mutts rescue. "Bunnie's" original name was "Honey-Bee" so there was a mix-up at intake and she was presented with both gorgeous pits. Michelle took one look at B's gorgeous brown eyes and owner approved sweet demeanor, and was hooked. Bunnie was living with John for sometime before David and I decided we wanted to try and foster. Within a week, we both knew there was no way she was leaving. With her enthusiastic tail-wags, playful spirit and calm nature, she was a natural favorite on our block for the next year. Though David and I ended our relationship in the winter of last year, I still think of Bunnie as my sweet girl. David and Bunnie are currently in Connecticut where she has acres of land to play fetch and eat grass to her heart's content. This little girl with a big heart stole ours and we wouldn't have had it any other way. I am so thankful for the mix-up and being a part of her world, albeit briefly." |
SonnyMaureen writes, "We had seen Sonny on your website and we had fallen in love with him. We went to Ollie's Place to see him and we were told he would be running around in the office. When we had gotten there there was a cat that looked like him in a cage on top and it had another cat's name on the cage, and when we passed by he put out his paw and tapped my daughter in the head. We asked about that cat which actually was Sonny, and we knew he was meant to be part our family and we adopted him! He is such a lovebug - so loving and such a wonderful boy! He now has a brother named Aiden who he loves so much! Aiden always is looking for him!! That's his buddy!! I can honestly say sonny rescued us!" |
Fern, adopted in 2012Fern tell us, "My life started out pretty tough. I was chained up in a junk yard, beaten, starved, and my collar was so tight it dug far into my skin! When Mighty Mutts found me, I had ended up on death row at a high-kill shelter. Lucky for me, the Mighty Mutts people knew I was a diamond in the rough, and they pulled me out and nursed me back to health. My foster parents fell in love with me immediately and said they wanted to keep me forever! After living in a junk yard, sometimes I still get scared when I go for walks at night, so they are helping me to be more confident. Now I'm living the high-life! Every night, I get to sleep in a queen-sized bed squeezed between my mom and dad, who love me very much." |
Sugar, formerly Mia, adopted in 2012Rebecca writes, "I adopted Sugar (formerly Mia) in the beginning of 2012. As soon as we reached home, I let her out of the carrier. She stepped out slowly, looked around and let out a loud fearful cry. She then ran under the sofa – where she remained for three hours. I then coaxed her out with toys and petting. We almost immediately bonded and now she follows me everywhere and just loves attention. She has her daily routine of napping in her favorite spots, watching the people walk by through the front window (I’m on the ground floor), and playing with her many toys. She is really talkative and quite athletic with her toys. She purrs all the time and is just so sweet. I recently adopted a playmate kitty named Zoe - a black cat of similar age and mellow temperament. They wrestle and play constantly and have recently started grooming each other. It’s love all around in my apartment. So great! I do believe that Sugar’s great personality is not only who she is, but partly from the loving volunteers who took care of her before she came to her forever home. Thanks so much for all!” |
Emily, adopted in 2012Phil writes, "I was working at the People's Improv Theatre back when I first met Em. She was one of the dogs they featured in a fundraising show back in January. I remember when it first crossed my desk we were going to do this show I thought "oh God I'm going to take one of these dogs home with me" and in fact I even said in an email to Mighty Mutts "dont let me adopt a dog" but sure enough I did. The show came and went with only a little excitement (Emily peed on the stage haha) but I got a card about fostering a dog because I thought I wasn't really ready to make a full-time commitment, but I wanted to help a dog somewhere find a good home. I met Emily a few weeks later. She had come narrowly from a kill shelter here in the City and had been living in Mighty Mutt's cat shelter since. I was really struck by, ever after every thing she had been through, she was so friendly and happy and full of energy. I was a little nervous because I had always heard such bad things about Pit Bulls, but the first day we got her home I was laying in bed reading and she bounded up next to me, put her head in my shoulder (right in front of my book) and proceeded to fall asleep. She and I have been inseparable ever since. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Might Mutts for not just helping Emily get a second chance and a new home, but for me to get a new best friend and companion that I can't imagine my life without." |
Rocky, adopted in 2010Rocky's mom Lauren writes, "I adopted Rocky almost 2 years ago from Ollie's Place. It was the middle of a heat wave - he screamed the entire cab ride home, but once out of the carrier he walked into every room checking things out and then immediately sprawled out on the coffee table like "okay this will do....." I have never had a cat adjust so quickly to a new home! Rocky (a.k.a "The Rockstar" by his many adoring fans!) is such a love - he charms everyone he meets! He also is way too smart for his own good; he is sure to point out his treat cabinet to anyone who babysits him and if mom does not get up at a time appropriate to him, he has figured out that if he hits the alarm clock just right he will turn the radio on! I appreciate him making sure I am never late for work, but he seems to not get the weekend sleeping in thing! Although he does love a good afternoon nap! He is so silly and has such a quirky personality. He seems so happy and contented, as it should be. Rocky is such a special boy and has added so much joy to my life. I feel very lucky to have him!! Thank you for giving him to me!" |
Lidia, formerly Thelma, adopted in 2012Lidia's mom writes, "Lidia and her mom, Louise, came from a puppy mill. Though Lidia was only about one year old, she had already been used for breeding. Lidia's adoptive mom, Beach writes: "We started fostering Thelma in early March and less than 2 weeks later, we knew there was no way we could give her up. She and our original pup, Mario, are inseparable. When they're not engaged in a heated game of tug-of-war, they're snuggling on the couch. She has changed dramatically from the pup she was on day one. When we first got her, she wouldn't climb the stairs, she cowered under the dining table whenever we put on the stereo or watched TV, and she spent much of her time in her crate, not sure what to make of her new family. Now that she's fully adjusted, she is truly the happiest little dog in NY: when my husband or I return home, she literally bounces with glee; she bosses her big brother around as if he isn't 1.5 times her size; and she has us laughing daily with her antics." |
Wanda, adopted in 2011Wanda shares her story: "Why hello, my name is Wanda. Someone took my puppies and dumped me in Brooklyn, and I was really scared until a nice man who knew about Mighty Mutts found me. After that I settled into my foster home. One day while I was relaxing on my couch, my foster dad's family came to visit and fell in love with me (who could blame them?). Dozens of Wanda-sized dog kisses later they couldn't resist the urge to give me a forever home. I may be 65 pounds, but I'm too dainty to fly, so my new family drove me 1,200 miles from New York City all the way to Kansas! Now I have a big yard to explore, friendly neighborhood dogs to play with, and not one but two couches to call my own. I've become the queen of the castle and I even get to sleep in the bed with my teenage human sister! I love my new home and my new family, and they love me too." |
Sebastian, adopted in 2013Sebastian writes: "So, I went to my new home on Saturday night. When I got there, these two giant creatures with big, wagging tails and long, floppy ears (they tell me they are called “beagles”) came up to me and started to lick my face. Yuck! So, I made a bee line to the bedroom and hung out under the bed for a while. After I got over the embarrassment, I decided to come out and look around. I’ve been exploring ever since. I found a nice windowsill were I can hang out and soak up some rays and watch the world go by. Besides the two beagles, I found out that I have a new sister, Smoky, who likes to rub noses with me. I also have a new brother, Fred. He’s the one in the picture with me. Did you know he used to live at the old Ollie’s Place? Anyway, he’s a little bit cautious around me; so, I have been minding my p’s and q’s when he’s around. My new folks keep saying that if I keep it up they might have to change my name to Sir Purrs-a-lot. That is too weird. Anyway, I’m doing fine and, as long as they keep feeding me, I think I’ll stay here for a while. I hope all of you get lucky too and find a nice home soon. And to all you humans at Ollie’s Place – thank you so much for taking care of me and Viola while we lived at Ollie’s Place." |
Tex, formerly Houdini, adopted in 1998Jess writes, "I finally agreed to adopt Tex and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. He was frightened and unsure when I brought him home. I understood. He had been a stray in Brooklyn before the Mighty Mutts people saved him and who knows what happened to him in his young life. The vet said his limp was most likely from being hit by a car. When I first adopted Tex, Mighty Mutts told me to take him to a doggie spa and wash him. They said it would be a good start to our relationship and that it would make Tex feel good about himself. I liked that idea so that’s what I did. He was so good in the bath..." Tex lived a full life and passed away peacefully in November 2010. Jess now lives in PA with 4 other dogs. |
CinderI owe my life to the brave Mighty Mutts volunteers! I was a "junk yard dog" since I was a puppy! For two years I was left tied to a stake, with only a cinder block house for a shelter. I ate whatever I could scavenge and drank stale rainwater from a tire! That's when Mighty Mutts came into my life! They slowly gained my trust by feeding me and petting me everyday while they were also feeding stray cats on the "route." Then, when they gained my trust, they rescued me in a most exciting fashion!

Hope, adopted in 1998I was found in April of 1998 outside of a Post Office in Harlem. Two Good Samaritans found me and inquired around the neighborhood. What they found out was truly appalling! I had been left behind in an abandoned basement for months, with nothing to eat but vermin and nothing to drink but water from a leaky boiler. They knew what to do and brought me to Mighty Mutts! At the time, I was only 27 pounds and in need of extensive medical care. Needless to say, I also had severe issues of trust. Other shelters would have given up on me, but Mighty Mutts had "Hope"! They worked hard for over a year to heal me, both inside and outside. The volunteer who worked the hardest with me eventually fell in love and adopted me. Now I'm living the good life in Florida, doing nothing all day but playing in the surf. I'm proof that, as long as there’s Mighty Mutts, there’s always Hope! |
Angel, adopted in 2000I'm a real Angel, but you would not have known it when I was found! My face was dirty, my halo tarnished and my wings were matted. Fortunately, I had my own guardian angels! Two sisters fed me and rescued me but unfortunately, I was found to be FeLV+. You see, they already had cats and I couldn't come home with them, but they found a lovely lady to foster me. Now I'm her guardian Angel! |
Dasher, Comet, Blitzen & Rudolf, adopted 2000-2002Did you notice that your holiday packages were a little late back in 1999? That was because Santa wasn't hittin' on all cylinders! He was missing the services of Rudolph, Comet, Dasher and Blitzen, the sweetest reindeers that anyone ever met! John found the quartet alone in an alley on Christmas eve, and it didn't look like they were going to be opening any presents the next morning. Fortunately, with prompt medical attention and a lot of TLC, the foursome slowly recovered. After a long wait, Rudy, the last of the group, found a new home in March of 2002! |
